CBN distillate is the component that embodies cannabinol in a concentrated form and is considered as cannabis’s minor type of cannabinoids. The entire process of production involves a distillation technique where the CI is removed from a substantial piece of plant material. Manufacturers trying to use the product in their formulations can acquire it in large volumes. One of those scenarios is where the CBN distillate is produced in the absence of THC which makes it a mainstream choice to those who would like to pass through the psychoactive effects while also benefiting from the therapeutic attributes of cannabinoids.

What is CBN?
CBN stands for cannabinol. Cannabinol (CBN) is a minor cannabinoid found in the hemp plant that has unique properties when consumed or used by the client. Most claim that CBN is helpful for sleep but there are no solid studies to date that support this evidence. According to Jamie Corroon, author of Cannabinol and Sleep: Separating Fact and Fiction “A systematic search of PubMed/MEDLINE was performed to evaluate the published evidence” she said. “Pre-clinical and clinical research investigating the effects of CBN is dated and limited, with the preponderance of human studies occurring in the 1970-1980s with small sample sizes lacking diversity in sociodemographic characteristics” This means that there are studies on CBN, but they are dated, don’t use proper testing sample sizes, and the diversity was underwhelming so we cannot say for sure that they are accurate.
Jamie concludes that “there is insufficient published evidence to support sleep-related claims.” What is interesting about CBN and Jamies claim that it has not evidence to support sleep-like effects is the way CBN attaches itself to our endocannabinoid system. Like THC, CBN attaches itself to the CB1 receptor which is known to produce more psyhcoactive effects. This means that it impacts the way you feel mentally more than physically, which is why so many claim to have felt more tired after taking any product with higher levels of CBN.
Concluding that there is no supporting studies to prove the claim of sleep, it does have the following proven effects according to Ethan Russo and Jahan Macu, authors of Cannabis Pharmacology: The Usual Suspects and a Few Promising Leads “CBN can be sedative, anticonvulsant in animal and human studies, and has demonstrated significant properties related to antiinflammatory, antibiotic, and anti-MRSA
activity (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 11 μg/mL) (Appendino
et al., 2008; Evans, 2007; McPartland & Russo, 2001; Musty, Karniol,
Shirikawa, Takahashi, & Knobel, 1976; Turner, Elsohly, & Boeren, 1980).” They also claim that CBN has “a component in topical applications, inhibiting
keratinocyte proliferation (low micromolar) via CBR-independent mechanisms, suggesting utility in psoriasis (Wilkinson & Williamson, 2007).” To make it easier to read, here are the benefits of CBN listed according to their research:- anti-convulsant
- anti-inflammatory
- antibiotic
